Plant Database Updates

If you are using Version 1.8 of SeedPlanner you can quickly add new plants to your personal plant database by downloading one of the following "update" files. To make use of the plant database updates:

  1. Download an update file to your computer by clicking on the name of the file below.
  2. Save the file to the hard disk on your computer. Be sure to save the file to a folder name that you can easily remember.
  3. If the file has a .zip extension, you must uncompress the file before using it:
    • If you are using a version of Windows before Windows ME you will need to get a copy of the shareware program winzip. Winzip can be downloaded from many web sites, including
    • Simply opening or double-clicking the .zip file will cause it be uncompressed.
  4. You should now have a file that ends with .mdb.
  5. Start SeedPlanner and open the plant database browser, either from the Tools menu or the toolbar.
  6. In the database browser, open the File menu and select Update Database. Then, browse to the folder you saved the update in and select the .mdb file.
  7. After a short time you will be presented with a list of plants that are in the update database but not in your personal copy.
  8. Either select the plants you want to add and press the Add Selected button, or press the Add All button. The plants are then added to your personal database.
  9. We recommend that you keep all the update files so that you can re-add plants if you accidentally delete them from your personal database.

You can only update your plant database after you have Registered with us.

Sharing Your Plant Information with Other Growers

If you would like to share the plant information you have entered into SeedPlanner with other growers you can:

  • Mail your file to us. We will then use your plant information in an upcoming update (that will be included in the above list of available updates). We will list you as a contributor to the update.
  • Mail your file directly to other growers (they must also use SeedPlanner in order to use it!) or if you have your own web site, add a link to the file.

To send your plant database, simply locate the file Custom.mdb in the directory where SeedPlanner is installed (the default location is C:\Program Files\Rainforest Technologies\SeedPlanner). Please use a program like winzip (which can be downloaded from if you don't already have it) to compress the file and then send the resulting file to as an e-mail attachment.
